    Ingredients:
    For the outer modak covering:
    1 cup rice flour
    2 drop yellow color
    1.5 cups water or as needed
    ¼ tsp desi ghee
    a pinch of salt

    For the inner sweet filling:
    1/4 tsp green eliachi powder
    a pinch of nutmeg powder
    2 tsp poppy seeds (khas khas)
    1 cup fresh powdered coconut
    1 cup powdered jiggery
    1 tbsp chopped raisin
    1 tbsp chopped cashewnuts
    1 tsp ghee
    ½ tsp rice flour

How To Make

For the filling:-
In a non stick pan add 1 tsp ghee. Now add poppy seeds, cardamom powder and nutmeg powder and saute for a minute. Now add powdered fresh coconut and powdered jiggery, raisin and cashewnuts mix well and cook on low flame till the jiggery melt and the moisture from the jaggery begins to dry, stir continously. Now switch off the flame. Now add ½ tsp rice flour and mix well and Keep this mixture aside and let it cool.
 
For the outer cover:-
In a deep heavy bottomed vessel add the water, color, oil and salt. Keep this vessel on the gas and let this mixture come to a boil. At this time reduce the flame and add the rice flour gradually. Stir quickly and mix the flour with the water. Stir continuously  till all the rice flour is mixed with the water.
Now switch off the flame. Now remove the pan from the gas and then cover this pan with a lid for 4 to 5 minutes.
 
How to proceed:-
After 5 minutes take all the dough in a plate and knead the dough very well using little warm water. The dough should be smooth and soft.
Now divide the dough into equal portions and make balls. You can also apply some water on your palms, while rolling the balls. Keep the balls covered with a kitchen towel. The balls should be smooth in appearance and should not have any cracks.
 
How to shape modak;-
Grease the steamer lightly with oil or ghee and keep water for steaming in a pan. Now take a ball and flatten it with your fingers to a round disc or a shallow bowl shape. you can apply ghee in your palms, while flattening. Now place the modak filling in the center. Now pleat the edges of the dough and gather them together to form a bundle. Now pinch to seal the edges at the top.
